MARTA SOMAUROO

Head of Japanese Art, East Asian Art Specialist

Marta is the East Asian Art Specialist at Azca Auctions with expertise covering countries such as Japan, Korea, China, Vietnam, Mongolia and the Himalayan Plains. She has been working in the field of Asian art for the past 15 years. 

After obtaining her BA in Japanese Studies and an MA in Art History from Warsaw Marta began her career in London by working for top Asian art dealers. Transitioning to auctions, she joined the renowned Asian Art department at Woolley and Wallis, expanding her knowledge in the field of Chinese and Korean.  

Prior to joining Azca Auctions, Marta spent six years at Chiswick Auctions where she headed the Japanese department, trained in auctioneering, curating sales and continued researching and cataloguing East Asian art.  

Outside of the commercial world she collaborated with the Victoria and Albert Museum in London and Manghha Museum in Krakow, co-curating two international exhibitions focusing on Japanese art.
